Johan Galué is one of the representatives of a renewed and powerful figuration in current Venezuelan art. Zuliano by birth, he is one of the most fruitful artists in the region, which is why his work is currently of interest inside and outside our borders.
His images are the result of very personal evocations and associations, thus placing himself in a surreal trend that has enriched the Zulia pictorial tradition so much. Although, at times, he takes dreams as his starting point, the illogicality of the immediate and surrounding reality also provides him with images of dislocated scenes, sometimes violent or absurd, that are part of his creative process. It is therefore important to know in depth how and why the images of Johan Galué are formed.
It is noteworthy how this artist upholds his creative freedom with iron discipline. This prevails as a fundamental principle of his work. This is manifested not only by the brilliance and strength of his images but also by the technical virtuosity with which he handles his expressive means: painting, drawing, assembling and collage. Showing his recent works in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Zulia, –considering its various themes and technical and formal procedures– will allow him to become one of the densest and most innovative artists of the new Venezuelan figuration of the 21st century.
