Fascination occurs when the unconscious has been shaken. This is not expressed with words or reasoning, but with dreams, daydreams, intentions or images. "
Carl Jung
The images created by these artists are a journey into their unconscious. Stimuli and dreams, his personal life, his fears and restrictions, his longings, imaginary journeys, his vivid environment and geography, are manifested in his creation. In the case of the artists Juan Salvador and Daniel Serva, the leitmotif of their work is the self-portrait, they are the protagonists of their works.
Great creators have worked on the self-portrait: Vincent Van Gogh paints himself in 1886, with the pinna of his ear bandaged, after the alleged self-mutilation of his lobe.
Velázquez paints himself hidden as a witness in “Las Meninas” Frida Kahlo, the great Mexican artist, records the vicissitudes of her life on her canvases and… finally, we cite the work of Salvador Dalí, in his painting “Guillermo Tell” in which she appears a winged horse, representing his relationship with his father, mythologized in the legend of the famous Tell, which traditionally symbolizes the fight for freedom and the pronouncement against tyranny.
Salvador and Serva are not an exception that can be left for history, their dream world, expressed in their manipulated photographs, is something worthy of much attention. They are, without a doubt, “Millennial” artists with the technical resources of this time, which he handles with rigor.
Johan Galué, the only painter in the group, reveals the images of his dreams, his internal world and his experiences. In them we see the impact of this moment in the history of Venezuelans and when seeing them they generate reflection and stimulate thought, a characteristic that is a quality of the great artists.
On the work of Johan I quote Lieska Husband who wrote a fantastic text about this extraordinary artist:
“Man has the ability to dream, to escape to parallel worlds. But if artistic expression is the conduit to channel all that labyrinth of memories, feelings and emotions, the result is a proposal converted into visual poetics freed from the prejudices of the conscious world.Everything is feasible from the hand of Johan Galué, the Marabino artist that makes the dreamlike its own way of life. "
These three artists that we have chosen as representatives of the so-called “new surrealism” will undoubtedly have a place in the history of art.
